Thanks! And may I add that your thesis sounds quite fascinating! I would love to hear more about it! Drop me an email, perhaps we can exchange some ideas off of each other to further nourish our love for Japanese History. Hope to hear from you again soon!

Hi there, big congratz on your writing achievement!

I recently became aware of the wonderful world of steampunk and after initial forays of googling for more information came upon this jewel of a blog. That there is also a steampanku subculture in Japan makes me feel all warm & fuzzy inside. Seriously, I'm inspired!

As it is, I'm currently writing a master's thesis about Fukuzawa Yukichi's connections to the Scottish Enlightenment (at University of Helsinki) and really, really needed some kind of weird twist like this to keep my imagination glued to that time period. Thanks to your blog I feel like I've finally found THE subculture in the world- like I'm coming home after many years of idle searching :D

Much kudos for the blog and please keep it going!

I really want to post some form of serialized fiction on the blog, though. If Guardian won't become live, then I'll just have to come up with another universe to write from :)

I understand the value of letting the novel breathe, but having taken very little time to write out the novel, I've left out a lot of details that I want to put down first in rough notes before I would do so. Perhaps that's how I will spend the rest of NaNoWriMo. That is, of course, after I take care of these gorram apps!

Thanks again, Tami!

HUGE congrats on finishing NaNoWriMo, krizzly! (and E-friggin-gads, so early, too!)

My best and most fervent hopes for your JET application to succeed. *fingers crossed*

Also, if I may offer two bits of advice, both of which you are more than free to ignore (as always, but it bears repeating).

1) After you finish the novel, give it a couple weeks to a month before you begin editing. That mental distance is important because it helps you see the difference between the vivid imagery in your HEAD, and what you actually wrote down.

2) I recommend not posting your NaNo draft here. (And I say this despite my soul crying out and begging me to be quiet, so I can read it!!)

Actually, if you plan on attempting publishing with the novel, I warn against posting it at all, anywhere, but even if you're not going to attempt publishing, I'd warn against posting the roughrough draft.

You only get "clean" readers ONCE. If you exhaust your store of beta readers (although at this point, we'd be alpha readers) too early, then you've got no one to read it after you do some polishing and shift some scenes around.

Take both of those for what they're worth from a well-meaning but unpublished friend. *hugs*

Finally, GRATS AGAIN on NaNoWriMo! The accomplishment CANNOT be understated, that's fantastic! *confetti, muffins, pompoms*
